An Open Letter to President Obama - # 1
Shame on you Sir, for telling the American people you favor "tax cuts" for 95% of American families when you really propose "welfare" for about 40% of families at the expense of the others. Calling redistribution of wealth "tax cuts" is dishonest. At least have the courage tell us exactly what you are doing.
Shame on you Sir, for loudly saying you would ban lobbyists in your administration and then making broad exceptions when it suits the desires of YOUR administration.
Shame on you Sir, for embarrassing yourself and this country by nominating an astounding array of frauds, cheats, and dishonorable people to your cabinet and your administration, when there are so many decent and honorable Americans to choose from. Do you want me to name names? Timothy Geithner, Tom Daschle, William Lynn, Bill Richardson, Nancy Killefer, Eric Holder, David Ogden, etc. Though not selected by you, surely you do not endorse the behavior of Chris Dodd, Barney Frank, Charlie Rangel... well you get the idea. The "most honorable administration in history" will be measured by what you allow as acceptable behavior.
Shame on you Sir, for not publicly calling on Nancy Pelosi to, at a minimum, remove Charlie Rangel from his chairmanship on the powerful Ways and Means Committee until his tax fraud scandals can be fully investigated and reported to the American people. He writes the laws we are expected to follow for goodness sakes. For you to not speak out publicly is a direct reflection of your values. This is NOT simply a party issue. Be a leader, please.
Shame on you Sir, for distorting our language so that actions of people who break the law are now just called "mistakes". Mr. President your acceptance of this double standard undermines your credibility.
Shame on you Sir, for telling the American people that the government is better and more capable of spending their own money than they are.
Shame on you Sir, for supporting a stimulus bill that stimulates very little. Even the Congressional Budget Office says that this package WILL NOT stimulate the economy as you have projected. I have a suggestion: if it does not create jobs NOW it does not belong in this package. Period. The pork can wait. Even you said there should be no pork in this bill.
Shame on you Sir, for even thinking that a trillion dollar plus deficit is acceptable. It's time to cut government spending across the board by at least 10%.
Shame on you Sir, for supporting the "Employee Free Choice Act" which denies workers the right to a secret ballot. That is the same right congressmen, senators, and all Americans enjoy. The very name of the bill is something George Orwell would have chosen.
Shame on you Sir, for supporting "The Fairness Doctrine" which would effectively deny the American people the right to listen to the radio programs of their choice without government intrusion. Orwell would have loved the name of this bill as well.
Shame on you Sir, for taking us on an accelerated road toward Socialism. You did not start it but your actions are leading us steadily in that direction. If that is your intent at least have the courage to use the words that match your actions.
Shame on you Sir, for bringing the fiction of George Orwell's novel "1984" to reality in 2009.
There is so much more not covered in this letter. I will save that for another day.
I did not vote for you, but I could support you, if at least you stood loudly for honor, integrity and American values.
Respectfully,
Steve Mishket
