Recent Quotes to Ponder - January 2010
We have essentially a 50-50 ideological split in this country. I find that amazing since not so long ago it was rare to find Americans who embraced Socialism. It was rare to find Americans who preferred large government to small government. It was rare to find Americans who embraced collectivism as opposed to individuality. It was rare to find Americans who wanted to be cared for cradle to grave by the government as opposed to relying on themselves to fill their needs. This is even more remarkable in light of the fact that history has NO examples of long term success with a socialistic form of government. -- Steve Mishket
"Except For Ending Slavery, Fascism, Nazism and Communism, WAR has Never Solved Anything." --Author unknown
It is time for President Obama to understand that he has been beaten - on health care, global warming and the conduct of the war, President Obama has lost the confidence of the American people. If he can sit back and absorb this, he’ll be the better man and better President for it. Unfortunately, it looks as though hubris really has taken over - that President Obama cannot conceive of his own defeat, and thus ignores any indications that he has been. It might take a bit more defeat before Obama wakes up - and if he doesn’t ever wake up, then the next three years will be very dangerous for the United States. -- Victor Davis Hanson
I am willing to pass laws to ensure that 50% of all Fortune 500 CEOs are women (despite the accelerated turnover this would create in the ranks of the Fortune 500), if we also legally mandate that 50% of all imprisonments are of women, and 50% of the jobs that involve working with heavy machinery, being outdoors in inclement weather, inhaling toxic fumes, or apprehending dangerous criminals are also occupied by women. Fair is fair. Any takers? -- The Futurist
"When plunder becomes a way of life for a group of men living together in society, they create for themselves in the course of time a legal system that authorizes it and a moral code that justifies it." -- Frederic Bastiat
“The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the presidency. It will be easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails us. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.” --Author unknown
We all want progress, but if you’re on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive. - C. S. Lewis
Assuming we do not shift to a consumption tax system, no one should be able to vote in federal elections unless they pay federal taxes or enlist in the military. I believe this is necessary to obviate the dangerous conflict of interest that exists when people realize they can vote themselves money and benefits from the national treasury. It will also stop the gross pandering to the masses of people who do not contribute. Voting is a right that should only be earned when one has "skin in the game." This is not anti-American by any means. We used to have land ownership requirements for voting, and this idea does not even go half as far as that requirement. Think back to the battle cry of the American Revolution: "Taxation without Representation is Tyranny." Well, there is no tyranny if you aren't paying taxes. And if you ever want a say in the federal government, be productive and pay your way to get into the game. It's an open invitation. Otherwise, you should have no say and no influence in the federal government. Only the people whose money is taken should be able to say how it is to be spent. Those paying taxes will have a logical incentive to help maintain equal opportunity for all citizens (including non-taxpayers) because we will always want to augment our tax base to ensure more tax revenue for the nation. The more people that pay in (and get to vote), the more money we will have for national defense, to promote the general welfare, to run national parks, to sustain our court systems, etc. Furthermore, this concept will further incentivize people's productivity. If you want a political voice and representation on the federal level, you have to work for it. People should have to feel the pain of paying taxes as a prerequisite to voting so that they can truly appreciate the sacrifice of spending other people's money. This would hopefully help to curb reckless spending initiatives. -- Matt Schwartz
Intellectuals, unlike normal people, are unaccountable for what they do, and as a result are unconstrained when it comes to foolishness. Therefore, immeasurable damage is done by intellectuals who pontificate, but avoid the consequences of the tripe they pass off as wisdom from on high. -- Thomas Sowell
We are getting close to the point where the dictionary definition of "journalist" will have to be altered to read, "A media personality who attempts to stifle news stories out of cowardice, ideology, or for pay." -- J.R. Dunn
Libs ask "Why should we discriminate against illegal immigrants."
I want to know "Why should we discriminate against citizens and legal immigrants?"
-- Tom Hall
I have on occasion tried to send e-mails on important issues to senators aside from California’s Boxer and Feinstein, and discovered that it can’t be done. These weasels have set it up so that they only hear from their own constituents. That being the case, I don’t want any of these human slugs introducing or voting on legislation that affects the entire nation. If they don’t want to hear from me, I sure don’t want to hear from them. -- Bert Prelutsky
The first principle is that the government is to "promote the general welfare," not provide for it. -- Author Unknown
