The presidency of Barack Obama is full of funny things that need not follow any sort of logic. Images and ideas just pop in and out, without worry of inconsistency, contradiction, or hypocrisy. It’s a fascinating mish-mash of strange heroes and bogeymen, this imaginarium of our president.
This blog is dedicated to the principles that I believe made The United States the most successful country in the history of the world. It is further dedicated to the desire and hope that we are smart enough to keep it. For now, it is a compilation of articles, columns and op-eds that I found to have interest or value. Hope you do as well. Please share your thoughts and opinions especially if you disagree. Just click on the "comment" link or e-mail me at stevemishket@att.net.

Republicans Should Make Intellect the Issue
September 9, 2011
By Peter Heck
I think the 2012 election is a perfect time for Republicans to remind the American people of the wisdom of Forrest Gump: "Stupid is as stupid does." And as Bret Stephens accurately confirmed to readers in the Wall Street Journal not long ago, "the presidency of Barack Obama is a case study in stupid does."

Obama: Our First Post-Racial Failure
October 12, 2010
By Stuart Schwartz
The consensus is growing that the greatest failure of the modern presidency is no longer a self-absorbed, mean-spirited white guy who embraces dictators and tyrants, can't manage his way out of a paper bag, and blames everything from earthquakes in Pakistan to bedbugs at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York on Israel. Rather, it is a self-absorbed, mean-spirited black guy who embraces dictators and tyrants, can't manage his way out of a paper bag, and blames everything from earthquakes in Pakistan to bed bugs at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York on Israel.

‘Like a Dog’: The Origins of Barack Obama’s Petulance
09/08/10
By Victor Davis Hanson
By Victor Davis Hanson
Obama in just twenty months has developed a reputation for being petulant, unusually sensitive to the normal run-of-the-mill criticism. His latest pushback was his strangest so far: “And they’re not always happy with me. They talk about me like a dog. That’s not in my prepared remarks, it’s just — but it’s true.”

The Art of Blowing It Bigtime
By Victor Davis Hanson
July 14, 2010
At the root of the president’s problems lies an erosion of public trust in his competence and his credibility. Voters simply do not believe much of what he says any more, whether or not they otherwise agree with his agenda. The old tonic, teleprompted “hope and change” banalities, has become a caricature, and his empty gestures are fooling few these days.

A Hapless Administration
July 06, 2010By Jeffrey Folks
The fact is that government is failing to produce jobs for the simple reason that government cannot create jobs. Jobs are created by the private sector as it produces goods and services that the public wants and needs. Other than necessary spending for national defense, government should have no role in the economy.

The 2010 oil spill is defined by yeoman’s efforts by Gulf Coast governors – and an Obama administration response that is leagues beyond inept. It is proactively incompetent and obstructionist, as though it is determined not to let this crisis go to waste – but to prolong and intensify the environmental and economic calamity, to advance its political objectives: shutting down offshore leasing and drilling, bringing the US oil industry into the automotive-banking-housing-healthcare sphere of federal control, forcing a massive shift to costly renewable energy, and ramming cap-tax-and-trade through Congress.

Putting it all together, the Obama Administration fans the flames of crisis after crisis, a Fascist’s dream for seizing control of a free nation. He and his cronies are dismantling piece by piece the foundation of our nation and flushing down the toilet 235 years of American ingenuity and values.

Report: Obama said 'I Am a Muslim'
June 16, 2010By Pamela Geller
Barack Obama took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, and yet whether he is a Muslim or not, he has undeniably gone around the world promoting Islam and Sharia (Islamic law).

Should We Care What's Wrong with Obama?
June 14, 2010By Kyle-Anne Shiver
We'll never know all that may be wrong with Obama or what caused his stubborn, willful refusal to acquire the strong character denied him in childhood. But I, for one, have begun to ask my Obama-voter acquaintances, even strangers who admit their vote and want to talk about it, "What were you thinking?" Civil confrontation is one of the best tools, available to every one of us, in helping Obama voters to come to grips with the enormity of their decision in the 2008 election.

A Shrink Asks: What's Wrong with Obama?
June 11, 2010By Robin of Berkeley
Obama's odd mannerisms intrigue a psychotherapist like me. He also presents a serious diagnostic challenge.
For one, Obama's teleprompter and the men behind the Blackberry keep him well-scripted. We know so little about the facts of his life.
But it's more than just a lack of information. Obama himself is a strange bird. He doesn't fit easily into any diagnostic category.
Many people attribute Obama's oddness to his narcissism. True, Obama has a gargantuan ego, and he is notoriously thin-skinned.

The distance between the president and the people is beginning to be revealed.
Can Black Americans Afford Obama?
by Walter E. Williams
June 09, 2010
Early indications suggest that the Barack Obama presidency might turn out to be similar to the failed presidency of Jimmy Carter. That's bad news for the nation but especially bad news for black Americans. No white presidential candidate had to live down the disgraced presidency of Carter but I'm all too fearful that a future black presidential candidate will find himself carrying the heavy baggage of a failed black president.
America 101 with Dean Obama
by Victor Davis Hanson
June 9, 2010America is not a campus. It has real jobs that are not lifelong sinecures. Americans work summers. There are consequences when rhetoric does not match reality. Outside of Harvard or Columbia, debt has to be paid back and is not called stimulus. We worry about jobs lost, not those in theory created or saved. We don’t blame predecessors for our own ongoing failures. Those who try to kill us are enemies, whose particular grievances we don’t care much to know about. Diversity is lived rather than professed; temporizing is not seen as reflection, but weakness.

The Coming Resignation of Barack Obama
By Peter Ferrara

I am now ready to predict that President Obama will not even make it that far. I predict that he will resign in discredited disgrace before the fall of 2012. Like my previous prediction, that is based not just on where we are now, but where we are going under his misleadership.

The Problem With Having an Olympian God for a President
05/26/10

It turns out that the only way to plug a hole is to plug it, not to talk about it; the only way to stop illegal immigration is to stop it , not blather about it; the only way to stop Iran is to defeat Iran, not to bluster about it; the only way to stop fiscal meltdown is to cut spending, not to bloviate about it.

Obama's Horse Sense
By Chuck Hakes
05/08/10
Between the end that you stuff fresh oats into, and the end that dispenses used oats, there is
the horse, a beast weighing upwards of a ton or more, with lots of working power, that can
be guided by just one person.
There is no report that Obama has ever ridden a horse, but he knows how one works. You
see, you guide the horse by guiding the horse's head. Point its nose in the direction you
want it to go and the rest of the horse follows. It's normally simple and easy. The only control
that is applied directly to the rest of the horse is a little boot in the ribs to hurry it up or some
encouraging pats.
If you don't want the horse distracted by other things it might see, you put blinders on it. You
withhold information.
Some of Obama's horses are AARP, the AMA, the NEA, AFL-CIO, the food workers
whatever they are called, the Teamsters, and also GM and Chrysler. Et al.
In each of these organizations the horse's head has been steered into supporting Obama,
making it appear that the body of the horse goes along. We have seen that isn't the
case. AARP and AMA members bucked when their leadership steered them astray even
though the heads of these organizations whinnied their support.
We are faced with the strange situation now where the body of the horse has to develop its
own senses and do its own thinking lest it be led where it doesn't want to go, especially if
where the head wants to take the horse is on the path to self-destruction.
Obama is a master at applying leverage. He knows he doesn't have to convince
Americans to follow him. He only has to convince those opinion and power leaders to follow
him because everyone of them will add not one voice but a thousand voices to his support.
Sadly, many of our fellow Americans will do nothing but follow where the horse's nose is
pointed. That's the easy route. But only in the short term.
Years ago I took the family horseback riding in the Tetons. Since I was the biggest guy I got
the biggest horse -- Spanish. We looked into each other's eyes and it was instant hatred.
I got my first warning when I reached to give Spanish a friendly touch on the forehead and the
cowpoke said "don't touch Spanish there or he will pull that hitching rail right out of the
ground."
I pointed Spanish's nose where I wanted him to go and for the whole ride he went sideways
through sticker bushes for a warm-up and then tried to scrape me off against trees. I neck-
reined, I jerked his head around, I applied muscle, I tried gentleness, I spoke kindly, I cursed.
He was so damn fat that I couldn't get my heels down to his sides to give him a boot.
I pointed his nose in the right direction but the rest of Spanish refused to follow.
As I reflect on it, Spanish was teaching me a lesson appropriate for the times we're in today.
When we hear of an endorsement of Obama by some organization we have to ask, does
the endorsement reflect the body or the horse or only the head? And Americans who are the body
must think for themselves.
The democrats will not be able to survive an electorate that consists of thinking, reasoning, informed individuals.

- **Political correctness is an approved form of censorship. Based on emotional appeals at the expense of reason, political correctness mandates that inconvenient truths or facts be swept under the carpet. Or else. Free speech, guaranteed to all Americans under the First Amendment, is on its way to becoming moot. The political, media, and intellectual elites who control the terms of national debate and the rules of civil society have succeeded in censoring opposing views, limiting debate, and demonizing dissent. - **No politician has any business talking about tax increases until ObamaCare is repealed. It’s the most comprehensively failed legislation of the modern era. Like a taxi that runs on plutonium, it’s costing us a fortune, and making us sick, even while it’s sitting there and doing nothing. Sold with fanciful promises and fraudulent cost estimates, it’s another expensive scheme to buy votes with taxpayer money, ending with a planned crisis the government will be only too happy to step in and “solve” by seizing even more of our wealth and liberty. Its passage stymied serious attempts at real improvements to our health-care system, including tort reform and allowing the interstate sale of insurance plans to increase competition. As with so many other delusional Big Government programs, the opportunity cost of passing ObamaCare, and passing up on reasonable plans that enhance individual liberty, rivals its staggering price tag. This is the last stand on earth.--Ronald Reagan
- ** A final word on Tea Party numbers. The Obama Inauguration left in its wake 100 tons of trash on the Mall that required herculean efforts by the District and the Park Service to clean up. And it devastated the grass surfaces of the Mall that necessitated budgeting millions of dollars to repair. - **The government may very well come up with a health insurance product that is cheaper (to the consumer) and more effective than those offered in the private sector. Think about this though ... Could that possibly be because the government will be under no pressure whatsoever to make a profit on its health insurance? - **I'd like to quote from an e-mail I recently received from a reader named J. Pyle. In response to a piece I had written ridiculing the state of higher education, he wrote: "I remember when 'Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Studies' meant trying to figure out what's wrong with those people. - **The most hilarious thing about the Democrats' attempt to engulf the health care industry in the inky blackness of the federal government is their primary selling point: that a government takeover will actually lead to reduced costs. How's that plan working out with Medicare so far? Oh yeah, it's on track to bankrupt the entire country. So let's expand that -- what could go wrong? Well, besides all the features that usually come along with socialized medicine: reduced quality of care, long wait times for operations, and allowing old people to die in order to cut costs. Obamacare would lead to health care with the compassion of the IRS, the competence of FEMA, and the well staffed work force of our border patrol at a much higher cost, but on the upside, you won't live as long, so you'll have less time to complain about it. -- John Hawkins
- **President Obama wants greater transparency from businesses, banks, the government — everyone except the union movement. This clearly benefits the union leaders, who will become less accountable to their members. But it’s hardly the change Obama promised to bring to Washington. — James Sherk

- **“The big mistake of Republican leadership is thinking that going through the motions of listening to their ‘base’ is the same thing as actually listening to the base. They keep trying to drag us to where they think we should be instead of joining us where we are.” -- John Hawkins
- ** Torturing prisoners should never be our policy, both because it's immoral and because it's usually ineffective. But it's madness to declare that there can never be exceptions. Forget the argument about the "ticking bomb" and the terrorist who might have information that could save numerous lives. Let's make it personal. Whether you're left, right or in between, ask yourself this yes-or-no question: If torturing a known terrorist would save the life of the person you love most in the world, would you approve it? If your answer is "no," you're not a moral paragon. You're an abomination. And please make your position clear to your husband or wife, mother or father, son or daughter.
