ObamaCare: 'A Health Care Reform For All'?

The Obama administration states that the "individual responsibility" provision will prevent people from "gaming the system" by mandating that Americans (who can afford to do so) maintain basic health coverage.  This however, is where the proverbial rubber meets the road.  Since the IRS is specifically prohibited from levying criminal penalties on those who do not purchase health insurance, how exactly will they be able to enforce such a mandate?  The answer is quite simple to the Statist.  Simply levy a fine (which the Obama administration now insists is a tax) on any American who refuses to purchase health insurance.

The problem with this kind of Federal over-reach is that such a law would circumvent our Constitution.

If Boehner pulls this off, it doesn't just make his bones - he will be the King of Washington DC.  Zero will be castrated.  President Eunuch.  His only possible hope for 2012 will be to work with the House and Senate Republicans in creating an environment for solid economic recovery that he can take credit for.

So... the trillion dollar question is:  does Boehner have the stones to make his bones?

The Deadly Pact: How ObamaCare will 'Save' Money

This provision gives the Health Secretary the discretion to remove life-extending treatment from the reach of seniors and place them in state wards for the purposes of making the "transition" to death as painless as possible. This "transition" can be activated for virtually any reason, including "a history of multiple readmissions" or "risk factor." Both of these qualifiers describe more than half the country, making this provision a transparent attempt by government to cut costs by forcibly cutting lives short. 

The above provision read like a page right out of science fiction. Movies like Soylent Green and Logan's Run have become the new reality. The popular chase scene where Logan flees state authorities, having reached the state-imposed age limit of thirty years, serves as a metaphor for present policy. Patients are told to "go home" and accept death instead of pursuing life-extending treatment. But should government decide when that is?

What about other basic needs that constitute pre-requisites for human dignity – like the right to food, shelter, education, jobs… and even cars? If the uninsured need and deserve medical protection, then surely the hungry should receive nourishment, the homeless ought to get housing, the unemployed require jobs and, ultimately, a compassionate nation must provide automotive transport for all who might otherwise feel trapped, immobile, hopeless and helpless with no access to the transportation they need to better their circumstances.

Governmental price controls never work. In the seventies during the oil crisis, Nixon and Carter spearheaded substantial wage and price controls aimed at hedging the U.S. economy against rampant consumer price inflation and mass layoffs. What happened? Domestic oil companies simply stopped producing oil to shield profits from the price caps. This reduced available supply as consumption continued to increase, causing a spike in prices. More expensive imports continued to displace domestic oil suppliers, and hyperinflation became the norm.

No insurance company could possibly provide auto insurance that paid the bills every time you changed a tire. The premiums would be impossibly expensive and people would abuse the system, running to the auto shop every time they felt they needed new windshield wipers or suffered a dent in their bumper. Likewise, no insurance company offers policies with 100 percent coverage of all medical bills. The premiums would be impossibly expensive and people would run to the doctor every time they had a sniffle or suffered a cut finger.

Resolved: that all federal and state employees must enroll in ObamaCare, without exception.

Any violation of this amendment will be punishable by a fine, imprisonment, and/or loss of federal or state employment. Enforcement of this provision will be overseen by a popularly elected commission, whose proceedings will be open to the public via the worldwide web.

“All federal and state employees” includes every member of Congress and the executive branch — those who currently have the finest medical insurance available in the country today (courtesy of you and me).

This is the key test for the Medi-Grab bill. Any member of Congress who votes against it reveals his or her true stand on America’s founding principles. Anyone who votes for it shows that he or she actually gets it. There are many terrifying parts of this Medi-Grab bill, but this is the simplest litmus test.

FIVE HEALTH CARE REFORM SOLUTIONS THAT MAKE SENSE Massachusetts, the bluest of states in our union, stunned the nation on Tuesday when it voted to end Washington's unbridled spending and plan for government-run health care. Americans still want health care reform, but they are looking for clear, patient-centered, fiscally responsible solutions. There's a way to make this work, says Dr. C.L. Gray, president of Physicians for Reform. Sell insurance across state lines: State mandates drive up costs; health insurance for a 25-year-old male in New Jersey costs nearly six times what it does in Kentucky, largely because of state mandates. Allowing businesses to purchase insurance across state lines empowers consumers, not Washington, and does not cost a dime. Let individuals purchase health insurance with pre-tax dollars: Insurance companies serve businesses, not patients; businesses purchase employee health insurance with pre-tax dollars while individuals purchase insurance with post-tax dollars making their insurance far more expensive. This reform lets patients buy products that meet their needs and makes insurers more accountable to patients. Encourage Health Care Savings Accounts (HSAs): HSAs reduce health care costs without rationing (cutting Medicare); they also let patients control their own money, decreasing health care spending by 13 percent. During 2005 and 2006, traditional insurance rose 7.3 percent annually while lower cost / higher deductable plans combined with HSAs rose only 2.7 percent annually. End abusive medical litigation: Frivolous litigation drives physicians out of medicine; bringing tens of millions of new patients into the system requires more physicians, not fewer. Frivolous litigation reform lowers cost and improves access to care; Americans spend approximately $124 billion every year because physicians practice defensive medicine. Cover the uninsured: We can insure the uninsured without expanding American debt; approximately 25 percent of patients who visit the emergency rooms do not have health care coverage. A system of tax credits can help the uninsured purchase coverage; this would cost approximately $80 billion annually.
