Within the last day Obama announced that we could expect unemployment to keep rising. Keep that in mind and read these excerpts on the health care plan. WASHINGTON – House Democrats on Tuesday rolled out a far-reaching $1.5 trillion plan that for the first time would make health care a right and a responsibility for all Americans, with Medical providers, employers and the wealthiest picking up most of the tab. Step right up and get it here folks -- the elusive free lunch we've heard so much about. Medical providers means doctors and hospitals doesn't it? I'm sure they can find ways to give cheaper and worse service to pay their share. They could probably save a bundle by making patients make their own beds, clean their own rooms and mop the hallway in front of their doors. Instead of beds with rails so patients can't fall out put the mattresses right on the floor. See how you can solve problems and save money with a little creative thinking? Those employers who can't pass on this added cost to their customers can probably make ends meet by laying off some people, investing less in plant and equipment and r & d, and accepting lowered earnings. With lower earnings per share the stock value will decline, thereby increasing the debt to equity ratio and making it harder for the companies to borrow money as well as more difficult to attract investors. Sound good so far? Ah, the wealthiest! Let's get those rich bastards and make them pay for us. We've already made it less attractive for them to invest in stock. Now we'll give them less to invest with. If we do this right we can drive them out of the stock market entirely and into precious metals (which are doing pretty well right now). If we really put the screws to them we may be able to get them to move their fortunes as well as their butts permanently offshore.
The federal government would be responsible for ensuring that every person, regardless of income or the state of their health, has access to an affordable insurance plan. Individuals and employers would have new obligations to get coverage, or face hefty penalties. Fantastic thinking! When poor people can't afford food and heat and medicine and housing and insurance all at the same time Obama will fine them. That's what they need. If they can't afford food and heat and insurance they better buy the insurance so they can get their malnutrition and pneumonia treated. Employers that are struggling -- fine them. If this administration had been around in 1876 they would have saved Custer by sending him more Indians.
Health care overhaul is Obama's top domestic priority, and his goal is to slow rising costs and provide coverage to nearly 50 million uninsured Americans. You would think that getting the economy going and getting people back to work would be his priority. But it is not. The lousy economy is the source of his power over America. His plan should work. Given a choice between buying insurance and having coverage or paying a fine and having nothing most people would opt for the insurance, unless it was all they could do to manage having food.
The plan would slow Medicare and Medicaid payments to medical providers. From big hospitals to solo physician practices, providers also would be held to account for quality care, not just ordering up tests and procedures. Let's see how slowing payments works. If it takes 60 days to get the revenue you ordinarily get in 30 days might this mean that a medical provider would need an extra 30 days' worth of expense money and might have to borrow it and pay interest on it? If so, and their revenues are capped, will they be encouraged to further cut services to patients? My guess is that they would. Maybe they announce to their suppliers that payment will be in 60 rather than 30 days. So the suppliers go to their banks to seek more operating capital but can't get it because their debt to equity ratios are already too high (see above). Maybe if we make it bad enough we can dry up the flow of people who want to be doctors, except for foreigners to whom America is utopia. Forget about 2010 being perhaps the last free election. It might be the last time you have a prayer in hell of understanding what your doctor says to you. Now we get to the really scary part: How do medical practitioners find out what quality care is needed without doing tests and procedures? Do they have to substitute hope and change, or what? I see a market for special coins: Heads -- do heart surgery. Tails -- take out a kidney. Who will judge whether care is quality? Your doctor? Apparently not. Rahm Emanuel? Possibly. Some bean-counter? In all likelihood. Yourself? Certainly not. Remember that under this medical plan the quality of care you get will be determined by the bean-counters. Think of yourself as an old car. If you need a water pump, and all your other parts are good, you might get it. If you need a transmission you get junked. It has been a mistake electing lawyers to Congress. Since the government is going to make medical decisions for us we will be better off if we elect doctors .
Insurance companies would be prohibited from denying coverage to the sick. The industry also would face stiff competition from a new government plan designed along the lines of Medicare. Oh goody. It sounds like it is going to be uneconomical for the insurance companies to provide coverage to anybody. The government is going to compete in private enterprise. The govenment can operate at a loss indefinitely by using our tax dollars and because the gov't can print money. This means that we get charged for the government health insurance and also pay taxes to subsidize the government insurance so we can do our fair share in putting private enterprise insurance companies out of business.
The liberal-leaning plan lacked figures on total costs, but a House Democratic aide said the total bill would add up to about $1.5 trillion over 10 years. The aide spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the private calculations. Most of the bill's costs come in the last five years after the 2012 presidential election. There's that familiar anonymous source again. What's your guess on the $1.5 trillion, most of which will be spent between 5 and 10 years from now? Maybe more like $3 trillion? $5 trillion? More? Obama figures he will be safely enthroned in his second term before the American people begin to suspect how great an economic disaster he has wrought. By that time the costs will be sky-high and the medical service will be rotten. We'll all be going to Canada for medical treatment where the wait is only several months.
The legislation calls for a 5.4 percent tax increase on individuals making more than $1 million a year, with a gradual tax beginning at $280,000 for individuals. Employers who don't provide coverage would be hit with a penalty equal to 8 percent of workers' wages with an exemption for small businesses. Individuals who decline an offer of affordable coverage would pay 2.5 percent of their incomes as a penalty, up to the average cost of ahealth insurance plan. I don't know what the marginal tax rate is on an annual income of $1 million. I wish I had occasion to know that. So what does a 5.4% tax increase mean? Does it mean the marginal rate increases by 5.4% of itself? Using 40% as a marginal rate example.that would make the rate about 42.5%. Or does it mean that the marginal rate of 40% becomes 45.4%? There's a big fat red devil in these details where it says "an offer of affordable coverage." Apparently the government will determine what you can afford, and therefore by default what money you can retain to spend on essentials and discretionary goods and services. If you consider this carefully enough this may mean that someone in government is going to decide what is essential and what is discretionary for you. In the meantime let's share the wealth by taxing those rich so-and-so's. Who cares about their portfolios or their investments in American business and the creation of jobs? Obama's got the solution. Do away with companies. Collect taxes. Have the government produce goods and services, starting with cars and health insurance. Have everybody work for the government according to his ability and receive from the government according to his need, and get promoted to better work based on how well he supports the administration. Yesssssss Comrade? Ve know you vill not complain.
